Kim LaMontagne brings a powerful message of mental health advocacy and recovery to her teaching and outreach efforts. As someone who struggled silently with depression, anxiety, and substance abuse even while succeeding as a high-powered corporate executive, she is uniquely positioned to educate our campus about dismantling stigma and facilitating open dialogue. Now 10 years sober and an internationally recognized speaker and trainer, Kim shares intimate insights from her journey towards improved wellbeing. She inspires students, faculty, and organizational leaders to confront shame, practice vulnerability, and create nurturing cultures of radical empathy. Kim was named one of Toronto's Top 30 Under 30 Emerging Leaders and serves on mental health advisory boards for several Fortune 500 companies. At our university, she has designed transformative educational workshops and co-leads a peer support community focused on emotional intelligence and stress resilience techniques.
While mental health challenges touched every area of Kim’s life at one time, her recovery story illuminates the possibility for growth after adversity. By advancing a culture that “sees the person, not the condition,” she helps fuel positive change on our campus and brings hope to all facing internal struggles. We’re proud to have Kim encouraging our university to live its values of understanding, inclusion, and holistic wellbeing every day.
