Ama Bortsie

Faculty Staff

A dedicated clinical social worker and inspirational leader, Ama Bortsie joins the Jacobs-Abbey Global Institute for Leadership Studies faculty as an Adjunct Professor leveraging over 11 years of experience empowering vulnerable youth and families.

Currently serving as Director of Residential Service at the prestigious Children’s Study Home managing complex trauma cases, Professor Bortsie excels in upholding the dignity of every child while equipping them to thrive despite adversity. Her pioneering work with commercially sexually exploited girls reveals deep specialization in restorative therapeutic models and resilience-based interventions.

A licensed clinical social worker in Massachusetts, Professor Bortsie obtained her Bachelor’s in Psychology from Smith College and a Master of Social Work from Springfield College. Previously, her field work focused on uplifting incarcerated young men through rehabilitative care and guidance.

At the Jacobs-Abbey Global Institute, Professor Bortsie develops courses exploring topics like cultural humility in social services, ethical decision-making, public policy advocacy, trauma-informed care approaches, and community-based interventions to proliferate access to mental health resources. Grounded in psychological empowerment and faith-based support, Professor Bortsie’s teaching philosophy centers on nurturing students’ compassion and equipping them with practical tools to drive transformational social change. Our graduates gain tremendously from her wisdom and frontline experience serving vulnerable groups.
