Professor Kwadwo Appiagyei-Atua is a member of the Ghana Bar and teaches Public International Law and International Human Rights Law at the School of Law, University of Ghana, Legon, Accra.

He is also the representative Lecturer from the University of Ghana in the LL.M Programme in Human Rights and Democratization course, Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, South Africa. Kwadwo obtained his Bachelor of Law (LLB, Hons) from the University of Ghana, Legon; Master of Laws (LLM) from Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS, Canada and his Doctor of Civil Law (DCL) from McGill University, Montreal, Canada. He then proceeded to do his post-doctoral fellowship at the Irish Centre for Human Rights, National University of Ireland, Galway, Ireland on a Bank of Ireland fellowship. Kwadwo just completed his Marie Curie International Incoming Fellowship at Centre for Educational Research and Development, Lincoln University, the UK where he conducted research on “Building Academic Freedom and Democracy in Africa.”

He is a member of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Thematic Group 3 on “The Challenges of Social Inclusion: Gender, Inequalities and Human Rights” and formerly a Global Ethics Fellow of the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs, New York, USA. Additionally, Kwadwo serves as a Monitor for the Magna Charta Observatory at University of Bologna, Italy. He has several years of experience as a human rights activist, lawyer, and scholar. He has also served as a consultant for various international and non-governmental organisations such as the United Nations (UN), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the International Centre for Transitional Justice (ICTJ), USA, the Africa Governance Monitoring and Advocacy Project (AfriMAP), UK, the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA), Senegal; the Open Society Global Global Drug Policy Program, USA.

His consultancy works have covered areas including transitional justice, disability law, human rights and drugs policy, women’s rights across various parts of the world. Professor Kwadwo Appiagyei-Atua currently serves as the Chief of Party for Chemonics International’s Ghana Case Tracking Activity, a USAID-sponsored project aimed at promoting efficiency in the delivery of criminal justice in Ghana.
