Certificate Program in Conflict Studies

Conflict is ubiquitous. As human beings we engage in conflict situations at both the personal and professional levels with varying degrees of comfort and success. This certificate is designed to build the confidence and capacity of learners to understand, analyze, and intervene in multiple conflict situations. These skills will enhance and complement the knowledge and practice of individuals in any field but, in particular, human resources, business management, law enforcement or social services. The Certificate program is beneficial for those who have already received a graduate degree, but would like to specialize in conflict resolution as a new area of focus. It is also appropriate for those who possess an undergraduate degree and are seeking to obtain fundamental knowledge of the conflict resolution field of study or for professionals who have already earned a graduate degree in their professional field, but who would benefit from academic study of applications of conflict resolution in their current profession

Program Length

This certificate can be completed in as little as 10 weeks.

Course Format

The programme will be delivered through lectures, group discussions, practical demonstrations, video presentations, practical and experiential exercises, case studies, and role-plays. Students will be assessed through written assignments, projects, oral presentations, and videotaped counselling project/examination and online formatting

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the certificate, students will:

  • Understand the theoretical underpinnings of conflict theory and its application to interpersonal and intercultural conflict.
  • Analyze and assess conflict stages and manifestations in order to intervene effectively and ethically to reduce, manage, and resolve conflict.
  • Identify and analyze cultural dimensions and power dynamics of conflict and conflict management.
  • Develop novice skills in the engagement of conflict including mediation and negotiation.
  • Demonstrate a broad understanding of work in the applied field of conflict and careers within dispute resolution.

Tuition for Certificate Programs​

Tuition for certificate programs is $560. Tuition for the Diploma programs is $900 and Tuition for Adv. Diploma programs is $1350. A one-time, non-refundable, application fee of $50 – and a Technology fee of $100 – are also required.

After paying the application fee of $50, students pay a deposit half payment upon acceptance or conditional acceptance to the program. Students then make monthly equal payments of the balance, which includes the technology fee of $100

How to Apply

  • Complete the online admissions application, including:
    • Essay questions, admissions and program-specific
    • Resume/curriculum vitae (CV)
    • Non-refundable $50 application fee
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges or universities where you earned a degree or certificate.
  • Two letters of recommendation are required, from people who are in a position to evaluate your professional or academic work. The person making the recommendation may not be related to you.
  • Interview with a faculty member of the department to which you seek entry if selected. This can be in person, by phone, WhatsApp or via Skype.

Certificate Programs do not require the GRE or any other standardized test for admissions. We consider all of your application materials, and evaluate your academic potential in a variety of ways.
